Job Title: Seasonal Maintenance Specialist Airside
Reports to: Manager, Airfield Services
Salary: Band 4 - $77,181
Term position starting October 20, 2025 - mid/late April 2025
Closing Date: September 21, 2025
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Airfield Services, the Airfield Maintenance Specialist maintains and repairs all aircraft operation surfaces. This role assists in providing a safe environment for our aircraft, the travelling public and cargo at our 24-hour operation. This seasonal role is to maintain the airside area during the winter season.
Responsibilities include:
Maintain and repair all aircraft operating surfaces including by not limited to security fencing, gates, signage, roadways, painting of markings, landscaping, snow/removal, and wildlife control
Operate heavy and or medium sized equipment on active and inactive runways in proximity of other equipment
General maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
Application of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals at application rates prescribed by others.
Ability to maintain radio contact and operate under radio direction with the Airfield Duty Manager and air traffic controllers
Carry out ice control on roads, parking, and service areas within the Winnipeg Airports Authority; and
Provide support to the airport emergency services in areas of crowd control, shuttling services, clearing access ways in the event of an emergency
Selection Criteria include:
Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum of two (2) winters’ experience operating heavy and/or medium equipment
Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment
Knowledge of operation and repair of winter and/or summer maintenance equipment (airport-specific equipment considered an asset)
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
Experience or knowledge of airport operations considered an asset.
Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement (Class 1 license considered an asset); must provide driver’s abstract
Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Radio/Telephone Operator Certificate
Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Vehicle Operator Permit “D” (AVOP)
Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card
Ability to obtain a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)
Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office; ability to prepare basic reports
Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask effectively
Physically able to perform manual labour (lifting/pushing up to 50 lbs, walking, shoveling snow or gravel as required)
Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment
Effective oral and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
